Functions of the Library
Library, which performs the functions of the library and publishing support, creates a study and science-friendly informational environment, services, and provides access to the necessary information sources.
To provide students, lecturers, and researchers with the necessary information resources and efficient academic information services, the library accumulates and forms the main fund of Lithuanian military science information resources and opens it to the public, organizes publishing processes, and gives publicity to scientific production.
The users of the Military Science Information resource funds are the community of General Jonas Žemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy and national defense system institutions, professional military personnel, students (cadets and students of other higher education institutions), scientists, lecturers, senior high school students, and the public, (including nongovernmental, civil, political, voluntary, non-formal youth and adult education organizations) interested in the military, defense, security, patriotic education.
Library is responsible for the fluent organization of publishing processes and the dissemination of scientific output. Upholding the standards of modern open-access publishing, scientific journals are hosted, stored, and published in the electronic publishing platform. This ensures the dissemination of scientific production and informative digital expression, increases the visibility and accessibility of journals on mobile devices.
Library represents LMA in various organizations related to library and publishing activities (Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library (eLABa) consortium, Lithuanian Association of Academic Libraries (LMBA), Lithuanian Association of Research Periodicals (LMPA), Lithuanian Association of Academic Publishers (LALA), etc.).
Library is open to the public, ensuring the principle of lifelong learning, helping to expand the collaboration between military and civil institutions, associations, and public institutions that contribute to strengthening the national defense system.
Library fosters cooperation with the Riflemen’s Union, the public organization “Birutietės”, memory institutions (Lithuanian Military Museum, Lithuanian Central State Archives, etc.).
